I gave notice while the boss was there but my last week and a half were when she was gone.

On duty manager wanted to kill me

Big projects are coming and she’s going to have no idea how to fill the void. They leaned the place out so much and no one is cross trained.

Oh well for them

I did in February.

I handed it to her supervisor who knew me well enough. Unfortunately the supervisor was a huge fan of mine and has had an ongoing feud for years with my then boss.

So it was a bit messy. It happens. I said in the letter it was unfortunate timing, but it needed to happen as the offer was something I could not pass up and had a limited time window. It wasn’t a lie.

To be fair my boss was a lazy person who did a lot of work from home and had been with the company to have way too much vacation time. I went upwards of 5-6 weeks without seeing her in person. She was also roughly 400 pounds and would never ever walk the extra 6 offices down to see me, she’d just call my phone when she was in the office. It was not a good work environment.

This. There are about 3 people where I work that would cause the entire place to implode if they left tomorrow, because management hasn’t bothered to cross-train. And I wouldn’t blame them one bit for leaving.

Not as serious, but I work at a diner. Open 7 days a week from 8am to 9pm

I became a server, manager, driver, and phone person. They never brought in anyone for me to train.

Now there are three servers trying to run a place 7 days a week. It’s not pretty. They didn’t plan at all.

The owners went to Albania for 3 months and are trying to leave the place running. It’s not smart. That’s why I left.

we kinda think my boss is on vacation about 75% of the time. She’s never in the office and doesn’t respond to phone or email. So eventually I will. Let us know how it goes.

Everyone thinks my boss is banging her boss (the president). She pulled over to this position from previous role that was kind of a split down departments. Added hours and stress...pay? Nope, not a cent.

The day I walk out of there will be glorious

The CIO (I always make friends with IT guys even though I’m not IT), basically told me to work on an exit plan the day my boss pulled me into this position lol She’s not fit for her position and basically has no clue what I actually do.

I’m starting to feel like we work for the same person. They keep promising they’ll train someone to help me, then telling everyone who submits a resume that we aren’t hiring. Part of me thinks they secretly believe I’ll stay out of pity if they don’t get anyone else.

And there are a few folks who rank higher than me for reasons no one can understand (blackmail? Sexual favors? Drug hookups?)

Lol While having drinks with an ex-coworker one time, I said I wonder what people there think of me. His response “they think you’re a pussy”.....I wasn’t exactly a social butterfly or strong personality while going through a divorce last year. They are going to be blind sided.

I’ll be sure to post something on how it goes. Always good responses to these kind of things.

She was so big she used to unbutton her pants after lunch.

It was awful.

The worst part is she was making roughly $160k+Bonus (we were a non-profit, we could find each other’s salaries) and had been in the position for almost 15 years. Sh had 10 years with the company prior to that. So 25 years at north of 6 figures, single, lived in a townhouse, rented her previous townhouse that she owned wholly. and we were a place that had a 401k and pension that equated to 15% annual towards retirement. So she had whatever she hadn’t spent in the bank and roughly a million in her retirement account and did nothing away from work and the occassional travel to the Caribbean.

So she was as motivated as a sloth and moved as quickly.

I once left my resignation on the office desk and my manager eventually saw it and came to see me and said “Sven, I’ve seen and read the letter you left for me and I’ve chosen to accept your resignation”. My reply was “it doesn’t matter if you accept it or not, I simply won’t be coming back here” and walked away, she shouted after me will “don’t be like that” while I went to serve th next customer. Lol.

Unrelated: tonight while I was at the gym doing dead lifts, there was a baseball bat near a big monster truck tire, and in my testosterone-induced aggression haze, I briefly considered picking up the bat and destroying something .

Fortunately cooler heads prevailed.

That was me, leaving my last job. Boss/owner asked if I’d stay on working contract, on this never ending clusterfuck of a project, doing late-night conference calls, as well as a piddle, not-worth-it project that wouldn’t end up in my portfolio anyway.

Thanks, but no thanks.

Unless you did something illegal/immoral/crazy (sure doesn’t sound like it), you have an unassailable high road. Neither party owes anything beyond the current pay period. Be clear, direct, and it’s strictly business. If they raise any issues: “Unless you have a compelling case backed by a substantial counter-offer, I believe our conversation is finished.” Move on and up at peace, but maybe without a LinkedIn connection to that supervisor; they sound nuts.

Kinja'd!!! nermal > Life and Times of Magoo: The People's Champ

Yep. Pretty simple.

Write short resignation letter. Walk into the office of the boss’s boss un-announced, and tell them that you wrote them a letter. Hand it to them. Get escorted out the door ~20 minutes later due to company not accepting 2 wks notice. Done.

What they do when you leave is not your problem. Look at this completely selfishly, and do it in the manner that benefits you the most.

Basically my plan. I’m friendly with some former employees who got bull shit exits from this place. So I don’t care one bit about what my boss is stuck with. Probably just go to HR first because they are also fans of me. Waiting for confirmed start date so I can do the deed. Emptied the desk and. Computer yesterday.

Some people get a few days to help with Loose ends. Others have convo with he and take a hike within 2 hours.

It almost works out she’s not here. I can go through HR and not have to deal with her acting like a child.

I’m all business and don’t need her as a reference so I can cook marshmallows on the burning bridge
